IFNAR1 is a 64 kD transmembrane protein that forms the heterodimeric receptor for type I interferons, including IFN-α, IFN-β, IFN-κ, IFN-ω, and IFN-ε, through a non-covalent association with IFNAR2. IFNAR-1 is expressed by nearly all cell types across various tissues, including the immune, endocrine, and central nervous systems. The binding of type I interferons to the receptor activates JAK-STAT signaling pathways, which promote the expression of interferon-stimulated genes (ISGs) and mediate anti-viral activity, tumor recognition, inflammation, and T-cell responses.
